What Happens During a Meet-and-Greet?

What Happens During a Meet-and-Greet? | The Well-Trained Dog & Pet Care | Roanoke

Employees of The Well-Trained Dog & Pet Care are among those professional pet sitters who do a free meet-and-greet before the first visit.  We do this with every client so they get to meet us and are comfortable having us come into their home. We also get to meet the pets.

When someone contacts us for service, we put their basic information-name, address, phone number, and email address-into our pet sitting software.  Then we send them an email which allows them access to our software to schedule visits, change visits, and pay securely through the pet sitting portal.

They can add their pets’ information such as feeding, walking, where the treats and litter boxes are, any special medication needs or the location of the bowls and food, for example.  There’s even a place for a picture of each pet. We encourage clients to keep their profile up to date.

When we go for our meet-and-greet, we review the information contained in the software with the client and make any updates.  All our employees have access to the information stored in the software for each client they’re visiting.

While meeting with the client, we have them show us where the food and water bowls, litter boxes, poop bags, and extra food are located.

We’ll want to know where cleaning supplies are in case of accidents, where the cat carrier is in case we need to take kitty to the vet.

Where does the client dispose of the waste? Do they want us to bring in the mail, rotate lights, water plants, put out the trash and recycling containers?

We also ask if anyone else has access to the home while the client is gone.  Sometimes a client’s friend or relative is stopping by to pick up something or might be popping in for a few hours.  That’s very important because we pay close attention to detail and if we notice something is missing or out of place, we’ll contact the client.

We describe our policies regarding last minute cancellations and visit requests. We also explain our inclement weather policy that tells the client in the case of a tornado, derecho, heavy snowfall, or other weather event, we might not be able to make it to their house and advise them to make alternate plans in case that happens.  We make every effort to be there but something this area gets hit with several inches of snow and/or ice and everything comes to a standstill.

We have the client show us where the key box or hide-a-key is located and note the code in the software, if it’s not already in the client’s profile.

The client signs the pet sitting contract as does the sitter and the form is kept in the client’s file.
