You’re invited to a baby shower but what do you gift the expectant mother? She’ll probably get a ton of diapers and the new family member will grow out of clothes quickly. What about giving the mother-to-be the gift of time, especially after the baby arrives? You can give them the gift of dog walking before and especially after the baby is born.
We had someone who called asking for us to do just that. Her friend had a C-section and was physically unable to walk her dog for a couple of weeks. She wanted to give her a practical gift and hired us to walk the new mother’s dog for a couple of weeks, giving the baby and new mom some much needed bonding time.
Pregnancy is such an exciting time, but it’s also exhausting! As your body changes and your energy levels shift, even simple daily tasks can start to feel like a challenge. Regular dog walks are important for their health and happiness. But keeping up with those daily walks while pregnant—or after bringing a new baby home—can be tough. That’s where hiring a professional dog walker can make all the difference.
Here are a few reasons why having a dog walker during pregnancy (and after baby arrives) is one of the best decisions you can make—for both you and your furry friend.
1. Keeps your dog happy and well-exercised
Dogs thrive on routine and activity. When you’re not feeling up to long walks, your dog might not get the exercise or mental stimulation they need. A professional dog walker keeps your pup’s tail wagging, ensures they’re getting out regularly, and helps prevent boredom-related behaviors like chewing, barking, or restlessness.

2. Reduces stress—for both of you
Pregnancy already comes with enough stress! Knowing your dog’s needs are taken care of gives you peace of mind and the gift of time. A tired, content dog is calmer around the house, and that calmer energy makes your home a more peaceful place for you (and eventually, for your baby too).
3. Keeps you and baby safe
As your pregnancy progresses and your balance shifts, walking a strong or excitable dog can become risky—especially if they pull on the leash. A dog walker helps keep you safe from accidental trips or falls, while still giving your dog the outdoor time they need.
4. Eases the transition after baby arrives
Once your baby is home, life can feel like a whirlwind. Between feedings, naps, and diaper changes, it’s easy for your dog’s walks to slip down the priority list. But maintaining their routine is key to helping your dog adjust to the new family dynamic. Regular walks with a familiar dog walker can reduce anxiety and excess energy—helping your pup adapt smoothly to life with the newest little human. A tired dog is a good dog.

5. A thoughtful gift idea for expectant or new moms
If you’re looking for a unique and practical baby shower gift, consider giving the gift of dog walking visits! A few weeks worth of walks or visits is a kind and thoughtful way to support a new mom who might be feeling overwhelmed. It’s not just a gift for her—it’s also a gift for her dog, which still needs love, attention, and exercise during this big transition.
